LUMINOSITY Presented at PSE 2026
September 2, 2026 Erfurt, GermanyThe latest results from the LUMINOSITY project were presented at the 20th International Conference on Plasma Surface Engineering (PSE 2026), held from 31 August to 3 September 2026 in Erfurt, Germany. The event provided an international platform for researchers and industry representatives to exchange knowledge on cutting-edge developments in plasma technologies, surface engineering, advanced coatings, and thin-film materials.
The presented poster, entitled“Thermal Stability and Degradation Mechanisms of Sputtered ZTO and AlSiOxNy Permeation Barrier Layers on PET Substrates under High Humidity”, explored advanced encapsulation solutions for flexible perovskite photovoltaic modules.
The research compared two thin-film barrier technologies, Zinc Tin Oxide (ZTO) and Aluminum Silicon Oxynitride (AlSiOxNy), under demanding damp-heat conditions (85°C / 85% relative humidity). The results demonstrated that AlSiOxNy barriers maintain excellent structural stability and moisture barrier performance during prolonged exposure, while ZTO barriers are more susceptible to degradation when combined with protective polymer liners.
The study also included proof-of-concept testing on perovskite solar modules, highlighting the importance of robust encapsulation strategies for enhancing long-term device stability under realistic operating conditions. The findings provide valuable insights into the optimisation of barrier layers for next-generation flexible perovskite solar cells and support LUMINOSITY’s ambition to develop durable and sustainable photovoltaic technologies.
Congratulations to Fraunhofer FEP and TNO on the successful presentation of these results at PSE 2026.
